Running therapy

I’m not so sure this morning’s run was all that good for my legs, and feet too for that matter, but it was great for my mind.

I was in a bit of a mood, to say the least, when I went out this morning at like 4:45 a.m. – I know!!! But I was having major issues sleeping, and since Mario had gotten up at 4 a.m. for the Tour (I did mention he’s psychotic, right?) I figured I might as well roll out of bed myself. I had a lot going on in my head, a lot of nastiness, and the second I started running, it was like I was trying to pound it all out through my feet, I’m surprised they’re not bruised. And my pace, good golly I was clipping away at like a 5:30 – a minute faster than I should have been. Thank goodness for the trains to help average it all out 🙂

It was great for averaging out my pace, but not so great for someone (that would be me!) who really had to go pee.

Running is an amazing outlet for me to sort out my problems and relieve my stresses on the road. I don’t what it is, the endorphins, the scenery, the movement, I don’t know, but nine times out of 10, I usually feel better after a run. And although I didn’t feel 100 per cent better after today’s run, it did help somewhat subside the tidal wave of emotions storming through me. And I’m sure that all who were in my presence post run, had they known what could have been sans run, would have been quite thankful for my running therapy 😉

For the last month, ever since starting my morning runs, I’ve pretty much used the same route, which takes me up Bridal Row. And it’s funny, last year when I was planning my wedding, I would drive down this road all the time and look at the wedding dress displays and gloat to the models in the window that my dress was better than their dress. Haha. But now, I’m looking at something completely different as I run past those very same windows – my reflection.

What can I say, I like to check out my form in the display windows.
Even when we were in Florence last spring, I was checking out the displays ... pics like this one had my sister convinced that we had eloped and didn't tell anyone! She's a bit of a nutter, and I love her because of it!

TODAY’S RUN

  • 4:45 a.m. BG before: 12.1 (Clif Zbar, full bolus, but not a BG correction, and no temp basal)
  • Distance: 5.82 km (had to cut the run short due to a need for the washroom)
  • Average pace: 6:16
  • Fastest pace: 3:15!!!
  • Time: 36.28
  • 6 a.m. BG after: 4.1

When I got to work my day quickly improved with a brown Purolator package I found on my desk first thing. Inside it were two separate clips for the back of my insulin pump – both free. The clip that came with my insulin pump when I purchased it six months ago has already worn loose, causing my pump to unclip from the waistband of my jeans and skirts at the most inopportune and uncomfortable times. I wasn’t too pleased that I was already having to purchase a replacement (they’re $30 a pop!) but I had resigned to the fact that this was just part of my new, expensive, life as a pumper. So I sent Stephanie at Animas an email telling her that mine had worn loose after just six months use and that I needed a new one. Within an hour Stephanie responded telling me she was sending me two clips at no charge. Wow! Totally wasn’t expecting that. And then, when they showed up on my desk, not even 24 hours later, I was quite impressed. I love good customer service!

These should last me at least a year – thanks Stephanie!

What is the craziest thing you do while running?

Reading your blog is like a little jog through your psyche, running past this and that, twisting, turning, hopping over the Undergoose (squawk, squawk, squawk), counting carbs, messin with Mario’s mind, showing off your satiny-smooth calves in the shop window 🙂 … and the insulin pump clips. Can’t forget insulin pump clips. You won’t find pix of THOSE on any other blog!! Read this blog and let go!! This blog sets you free!! 🙂

  2. Running almost ALWAYS gets me out of a funk… holy endorphins, Batman!

I also love looking at wedding dresses. I never really thought about “my wedding” with a capital W when I was younger, but now… anyway.
