Breakfast at Tiffany’s

It was almost one year ago, on Sept. 12, 2009, that my newly minted husband presented me with a small, turquoise box that had a perfectly wrapped white ribbon around it. And while I didn’t know exactly what was inside the box, I sure as heck did know where that box came from. How could I not?

Isn’t it every girl’s dream to get a ‘Tiffany blue’ box from Tiffany’s?

It was about 3 a.m., all our guests had gone home, my wedding gown was still on the verge of cutting off my oxygen, and my mouth was agape. I couldn’t get that box open fast enough. Mario, with an ‘I did good’ smile on his face, told me every girl should have something from Tiffany’s. (Yep, that’s my husband!)

My sister agreed – whole heartedly.

For 41 years, or at least as long as she can remember, Jules has wanted something from Tiffany’s. A ring. A necklace. A bracelet. Earrings. It didn’t matter what, just as long as it came from Tiffany’s. And as of her 40th birthday, last year, the closest she had gotten was a birthday cake decorated in the jewelry store’s signature Tiffany blue box.

Well dear, darling sister of mine, today, on your 41st birthday, I’ve found you a way of getting that much-desired Tiffany’s acquisition. And oh what a rewarding way it would be, let me just say, a way in which you would never EVER forget where it came from. Are you ready for it?

All you’ve got to do is run a half marathon with me next fall, not even a full marathon (although you could do that too). No biggie really 😉

A girlfriend of mine informed me the other day that Tiffany’s sponsors the Nike Women’s Marathon in San Francisco and that every finisher is awarded a Tiffany’s necklace upon completion – ka-ching! Not only are you getting a highly coveted Tiffany’s necklace, you’re also getting an opportunity to run through the streets of San Francisco – one of the coolest U.S. city’s that I have yet to visit. Running those hills would so be worth it!

So mark your calendar, dear sister, we’ve got to get ourselves into that 2011 race lottery; the first step in getting ourselves into that Tiffany’s sponsored race, and getting ourselves that oh-so-lovely Tiffany’s necklace. We’ve just got to!

Happy birthday Jules – I heart you to pieces!

  1. Oh my goodness Katie I’ve seen those hills but the blue box is calling me! When do you need a answer by? I think I would crawl across the finish line just to get the box I wouldn’t even open it, who am kidding of course I would open it!

  2. 1) I love the Mario story, and I loved your necklace when you were here!

    2) YES SF Tiffany’s race! I’ve wanted to do that, too… just get your hill training in!
