It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s … Lightning Bolt!

Just one more week! One more week until I get to hold Baby Number 3! Well actually, for me, he’s number 9, but for my big brother and dear sister in law, he’s Number 3. In every way possible. Name included.

For months now they’ve been trying to come up with the perfect name for their third boy, and they even had the advantage this time of knowing ahead of time what they were having (a little slip in the ultrasound room made it all too clear they were halfway to starting their very own soccer team) but oh man have they struggled. And I can’t imagine it’s the easiest thing in the world to name a kid, you’ve got to give him a name that’s he’s going to have for the rest of his life, you can’t exactly change it if you get bored of it or sick of it, it’s there – forever. So yeah, it’s got to be perfect right. They like one-syllable names, but after perusing super long lists of one-syllable names and still coming up short, I think they’re beginning to lax that guideline.

Mario’s gunning for Lightning Bolt, which he argues is a super strong name, heck it’s a superhero’s name, he says. And the biggest advantage of naming your kid Lightning Bolt, he’s actually justified in running around with a cape and talking in a low echoey voice! But if Lightening Bolt’s a little too strong, he’d also settle for Hippolite or Obidiah (God help me when we decide to have a kid!) My four-year-old nephew – Number 3’s big brother – was championing Juice … as in Apple Juice! (Their cat’s name is Rudy Littlefoot and was named by both boys … for Number 3’s sake, I hope they’re not given the task.) They need help.
