An ode to moms

Dear moms,

Without you, I wouldn’t be here. Not only did you give birth to this here princess, you empowered me to be the independent person I am today, to believe in myself, to love myself, to kick and scream, and even throw a few punches too when things don’t go my way. You gave me an un-detering, never give in, fight like you’ve never fought before attitude. You gave me my button nose, and my plump lips, and yes my simian finger tips too. You gave me my addiction healthy relationship with chocolate and my undying love for ice cream. You did not give me your breasts, but did give me your early grey hair and nervous belly (but I shant fault you for those!). And on more than one occasion, including yesterday, you gave me life.

Wedding moms (and pops)

Back when I was a rebellious teenager, ignoring the fact that I had this disease called diabetes, on several occasions my body would go into hypoglycemic attacks in the middle of the night, full body convulsions, so I’m told. And every time my mom woke up. She didn’t hear me, she had no idea what was going on in my bedroom, but something inside her woke her up, and told her to check on her daughter. Without that moms’ intuition, I very well might not be here today. Thanks moms!

Marathon moms (and pops)

And then yesterday morning, the morning that I slept in ’til like 10:15, which never happens, my moms called me and woke me up, I was totally out of it. Normally on Saturdays I get up at 7:30 to have breakfast with Mario before he goes to work, but when he tried to wake me, I opened my eyes, gave him a look of disgust, grunted, and proceeded to roll over. Mario figured I was just beat from Tri Night the evening before, and figured because I’m on holidays, he’d let me sleep. Well, I was beat, but my blood sugars were also a 2.0 when my moms woke me up. Moms’ intuition that’s what that was … and maybe a desire to go shopping with her daughter 😀

Chocolate moms and chocolate grams (our love for chocolate comes from the top)

My moms is by far the strongest, most beautiful, kind-hearted woman I have ever known, and hands down the bestest moms I could ever have asked for. Happy moms’ day mom. Love you to pieces!

And because I just shared so much about my moms, it’s your turn. Tell me one great thing about your moms.

Hey? Your “ode to moms” was beautiful 🙂
I guess everybody figures they have the best mother in the world, but YOUR mother sounds hard to beat – downright SUPERNATURAL!!
One great thing about my mother? She makes me Bob-sop and biscuits. I know, I know, it doesn’t sound like much – but not many mothers can make this simple Southern food, a staple of Depression-era farmers who scratched a living out of the red dirt of the place I call home. My mother remembers her mother feeding the men who came around to my grandfather’s farm looking for work. But there was no work to give, and no money to pay them even if there was. But she could always give them a plate of Bob-sop and biscuits “to keep body and soul together.”
My mother connects me to a way of life that was simple, good and true. I can’t thank her enough 🙂

  4. My mom just enjoys life. She loves to DO things, like go to museums, look at birds, take long walks. I hope I’m like that.
