Rules are meant to be broken

Yesterday I ran, because that’s what I do, I am a running princess after all, but when I laced up my sneakers I was somewhat concerned, I always am after an extended break, and yesterday’s run was my first run in three weeks! Andddddd I pretty much broke all the rules.

Slow pace? Not as slow as it should have been.
Ten and ones? Yeahhhh, nope.
7 km max? nuh-uh to that one too.
Oops…

YESTERDAY’S COUNTRY RUN:

I may have got lost somewhat sidetracked along this never-ending dead-end road.

When I hit the road for my “long” “slow” distance run – a day late – I hadn’t yet figured out a training schedule, and to be honest I still haven’t. If I were to follow the Running Room plan, I should have run just 7 km, but I’m pretty sure that’s not the plan I want to follow this time around. For some people it’s a great plan, but for me, it’s not. I can’t run 5 times a week, my body will literally fall apart. If anything, just as I did with the marathon, I will be maxing out at two or three runs a week and then adding bike rides, pilates and aqua jogging into the mix.

And then there’s the weekly distances. The Toronto Half that I did while training for the marathon was the best half marathon I have ever run, I felt great and my time was great, and I credit a lot of that to the mileage I was putting in with marathon training. I know I don’t want to be running upwards of 32 km, but I’m pretty sure I do want to run longer than 19 km, largely in part because I plan on doing a lot of my LSD runs on the seawall, which from Waterfront Station to Granville Island is 19 km and if I end at Granville Island I can finish up eating one of the tastiest sandwiches EVER while surrounded by one of the most beautiful views.

So where does that leave me? At this point, I still don’t know, which means I’ll probably continue to break the rules. But hey, when I’ve got beautiful buttercups and daisies and thistles and even a few dandilions too along my routes, I ain’t complaining. And besides, rules are meant to be broken aren’t they 😀

Maybe I like weeds so much because you can’t kill ’em 😀

What training plan do you follow?
