What was I thinking???

I don’t like the same-old, same-old running routes. I don’t like out-and-back running routes. I don’t like running in temperatures below zero. But more than any of that, I do NOT like running the treadmill! What was I thinking? After work Tuesday I headed to my moms fully intending on going for a 7 km run through the country. The days are starting to get longer, and even though it was freak nasty cold out, there were bright sun rays peaking through the hazed-over clouds; it seemed a perfect recipe for a late afternoon run. But, there were obstacles. I’ve been struggling with serious belly issues for about a week now, and when I got out of my car, ohmygawd!!! I swear to you I was nearly knocked  halfway into the farm fields like an old rag doll, the wind was so freaking fierce – and cold! Bloody hell it was […]

Strength training, toddler style

Dear Little Ring, Remember those days when you were just a lump? The days when you’d lie there keeping mama company for her strength training? The days when all you could do was lift up and try to grab my necklace as I struggled through pushups or planked for a minute over top of you? The days when you’d roll from side to side, lift your arms, lift your legs, but essentially still just a little lump? Remember those? Oh how long ago those days were… Dear Little Ring, While I do so very, very, very much LOVE our daily snuggles, during strength training? Really? During pushups with your much larger lump directly under me? Really? During planks, clam shells, squats and lunges – Really??? Yes mama, really! (Note: He was totally lifting his legs just like I was AND reading his book – little show off! 😉 )

2013: The year that was

When I woke up this morning, at 7 a.m. – on purpose! – I was reminded of the me 14 years ago. The first day of the new millennium had me an unhealthy, unhappy, hungover mess. I was overweight, I was miserable, Dear Diabetes and me were not frienemies, we were full on enemies, I had no motivation to run, let alone take on any kind of exercise, and the thought of a child undertow had me cowering under a blanket. Fast forward 14 years, and my goodness, how far I’ve come. I’m a wife. I’m a mom. I’m a runner. I’m a rockstar diabetic. I’m happy. So freaking happy. My life, I am proud to boast, just keeps getting better and better 😀 So, I figured I’d celebrate with a morning run and a year’s reflection. Wardrobe malfunction

There are some runs that are just so incredibly perfect, you know the ones, the ones that feel like you’ve been running around the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow the entire time. Ahh, bliss is what those are… And then, there are those other runs, the ones that, well, the ones you want to forget about, but never do in hopes of never EVER repeating again. Today’s run was that kind of a run. My feet, legs, lungs and belly were all working pretty good. I wasn’t sucking air, I wasn’t feeling like I’d eaten 10 buckets of ice cream, I wasn’t wishing to be anywhere but there. Nope, today was all about my wardrobe – malfunctioning!!! The shoes were just a small fraction of today’s issues! WARDROBE MALFUNCTION RUN: 12:15 p.m. BG before: 7.6 Carbs: Sezme Snack (12g) no bolus Temp. basal: none Time: 29:42

Running clothes, where for art thou?

Finding storage = the trials and tribulations of living in a loft! As the fall weather came upon us rather abruptly yesterday, pretty much the second the calendar changed seasons so did the weather, I suddenly realized I might have to start dressing in long sleeves and tights for runs. But when I went to grab a long sleeve out of my running drawer, there were none to be had. Now, this drawer is a pretty full drawer so I looked again, and again, and again. I wasn’t satisfied until I had pulled every article of clothing out of the drawer and onto my floor. Nope, no long sleeve there. I searched the closet, not there; another drawer, not there; well crikey, where the heck had my running clothes run off to? As of writing this post, I have yet to find my cool weather running gear, but I suspect
