BMO Vancouver 8 km race recap

I’m not going to lie and say I wasn’t disappointed with my first race back. Sure my stats look pretty darn decent: 11th in my age category (30-34); 72nd out of 490 women running; and 163rd overall out of 861 runners. But my finish time wasn’t the time I wanted. I went into the BMO Vancouver 8 km race yesterday morning with the intention of completing in 42:00 minutes. That did not happen. My Garmin time at 8 km was 44:03 and my chip time was 45:17. I don’t want to be the girl with excuses because my mantra for this race all along has been no excuses and by the time this post is complete I hope you will agree that I am not, in any way, excusing myself. But there were obstacles. With a 6:30 a.m. start time, I was out of bed by 3:30 and eating a […]

Run Around The Rosie

The sun, it can be a blessing in one hand, and a Dementor in another – sucking all life out of a speedy run! I love the longer days. I love being able to head out for a run as soon as Big Ring gets home from work and still be in daylight hours. I love being able to go out in shorts and a tank top, and not have to layer up to a Pillsbury Dough Girl state. I love the colours of the flowers, the smells of the evening barbecues, and the happy chatter all around me. #Blessing The sun and daffodils = a perfect spring day! However, the people, well, there’s a lot left to be desired there let me just say. (Yes, yes, I know, that happy chatter is coming from those same people… so maybe it’s the happy chatter – FROM AFAR – I like ;))

Directionally disturbed

When I opened my eyes this morning there was lead weighting down my feet, sleep fairies blurring my vision, and every Negative Nelly excuse clouding my judgement. I had wanted to go for a run this morning, I was sure I did, and yet, when the alarm (aka: Big Ring) jolted me awake, I wanted nothing more than to roll over, stuff my head under my pillow, and go back to the land of dreams. It’s too cold, I moaned. I’m not feeling so great, I whined. I’m tired, I whimpered. And then the negotiations: I’ll go when it’s warmer out. I’ll go when I’m more awake. I’ll go this afternoon. Translation: I won’t go. Somehow, I don’t know how, I fought through it enough to get myself kitted up for a run, but even after squeezing into my compression tights (which by the way is NO easy task) I

And so it begins…

I’ve waited for this day, dreamed of this day, ached for this day. And yet, when it finally arrived, my belly was all full of nerves, my heart was shaking, my legs quaking. The reason: A run; my first in 7 months! Heading out. Prior to lacing up my sneakers last night, I had visions of tripping on the pavement like I did the night I first learned of Little Ring in my belly, or of my hip popping out, like it did so many times pre-pregnancy, or of getting a tweak in my knee, or cracking my ankle bones with the kicking of my feet. Not surprising really. With my running past being so injury laden, it was hard not to worry about what may be. But then, I got out there. And oh man, the moment my sneakers hit the pavement, the moment I felt the beat of
