Coming clean

I have a dirty, little secret. Actually, I take that back. It’s a dirty, huge, stinky secret! It’s been eating away at me for like two whole months, and I can’t take it anymore. I can’t take the lies and the averted eyes, and the shame, ohhhh the shame…. If you’ve been following POP for awhile now, you’ll know that I’m borderline OCD when it comes to avoiding germs. I carry sanitizer in my purse, in my car, have a tube on my desk at work, and another in my desk drawer at home. I don’t like to shake people’s hands, you don’t know where they’ve been, and when I visit my young nephews, as super cute and loveable as they are, I am often running back and forth from the washroom, scrubbing their icky, germ-infested whatevers off me. But nothing beats my fears of pools and hot tubs. They […]

Oh. My. McDreamy.

I did what you told me moms, I envisioned it, I dreamed it, I pictured it real hard, and you know what, it actually worked. Me and McDreamy. Ahhhh sigh. The day before the Levi Leipheimer Gran Fondo, Mario and I headed into Santa Rosa to pick up his race packet at the Finley Centre and to explore the expo. While Mario had his eyes peeled for cycling deals and cycling treats, I had mine peeled for dreamy cyclists 😀 Found me a team truck, now all I needed was to find me a Levi. There wasn’t a whole heck of a lot going on for either of us. We were in and out of the registration area in less than an hour. Feeling a little disappointed (more so on my end) we headed for the exits. On the way out, Mario caught a sign telling us that Levi would

Running with the vultures

I’m sorry people. I couldn’t do it. I tried. I even timidly walked back to the spot where they were, camera in hand, but as soon as they started flapping their wings, I was off running. I was NOT going to be vulture bait. I have run with dogs, and cows, and horses, and chickens, even some rabbits here and there. But not until I arrived in Sonoma County did I ever run with vultures. And let me just say, never again do I want to run with vultures, because as much as I kept telling myself we were just running together, that it was no big deal, I think it was more them chasing me as though I were a hunk of decaying flesh dangling before their eyes. Photo by Casey Allen on Unsplash I would have got my own picture, but, uhm, I was pretty close to peeing

Educate me dear master

Sometimes you just need to shut down. I know last week, before I left for vacation, I tempted you all with the possibility of an on-vacation blog or two, but as soon as we landed down in Sonoma County, the last thing I wanted to do was write. I wanted to read; I wanted to drink wine and eat cheeses outside on the patio; I wanted to fully take in the sounds of the crickets and the frogs and the drunken rooster; I wanted to pick apples and tomatoes. But I did not want to write. And so, dear friends, now that I’m home, I’ve got blog postings up the wazoo all about retreat-style living, celebrity drooling, cycle racing, vulture chasing, wine tasting, and so much more. Let’s start with the wine shall we 😀 ——————————————————————————————————— No one told me I was supposed to spit… actually, they did, I didn’t

Leaving on a jet plane

When going on holidays, how many shoes are too many shoes? Given the look on Mario’s face when he saw my entire wardrobe strewn on my bed and my many shoes lining the outskirts of my bed, I’m guessing he’d say two. I say four … okay maybe five 😉 Tomorrow morning Mario and I will be boarding a plane for San Francisco where we will then be renting a car to take us to Sonoma County, where we will be embarking upon a week of wine tasting, Lance Armstrong stalking, and Mario cheering festivities. Some of you may recall, for Mario’s birthday back in January, I had registered him for the Levi Leipheimer Gran Fondo, which is 103 miles, 160 km – the most he’s ever ridden – through Sonoma County. Now, I’ll be honest, while I looked like a super amazing wife at the time (and I totally
